Build a burning man theme camp on the esplanade
Be a part of builing a large Burning Man Esplanade theme camp. Tell us what you did to help.erachner's attempt:
The Story
It was 1998. The way I remember things, Tess, Gromit, Charley, and myself were the main instigators, enabled by the invaluable assistance of Tess' architect friend.
We built a lighthouse, and were awarded the spot at the furthest clockwise position on Esplanade, where it intersected with 10:00.
We named our lighthouse after Montauk Point, a reference to the lighthouse noted by conspiracy theorists as the site of the Montauk Project. The legend goes that in 1943, the USS Eldridge vanished, momentarily, from reality as we know it. We were listening to a great deal of William Orbit's work in those days, and his track Montauk was a favorite of mine then and now.
Camp that year was a drama scene like none before it. Cynthia broke up with Jeff and took up with Sam. Alicia broke up with Mike and took up with Libby. Mike freaked out and ate the camp's entire acid stash. I had some affairs of my own.
And the generator that powered our rotating lighthouse beacon broke down when playa dust clogged its every artery, forcing me to leave camp to obtain a replacement in Reno.
As to the lighthouse, well, it was a dozen kinds of enormous pain in the ass, but it withstood the weather, and none of us ever got lost on our way back to camp.
