Start your own business

If you end up making it a success that's great, but just taking the leap to start a business requires a good deal of courage!

The Story

In 2005 my husband did what I believe the most successful business owners have done - we identified a need and decided to fill it. As self-employed freelancers (in web development and photography) we saw a need for a new kind of business networking community - one that spoke to our generation and the urban indie business owners in our community. We couldn't find a business networking group that we wanted to be a part of, so we created one and called it Biznik - www.biznik.com. Biznik is "business networking that doesn't suck" and combines an online social networking site with face-to-face events that provide opportunities for business networking and learning how to develop your business. Just over a year old, we have close to 2100 members, over 1200 of them in the Seattle area. We'll be launching a new site build in Ruby on Rails in March of this year.
